Russian Swimming Championships 25m: Day 3 results

Veronika Popova and Rozalia Nasretdinova became the heroes of the third competiton day at the Russian Swimming Championships (25m) in Kazan.

Women's 4x50m medley relay

1. Moscow (Nadezhda Vinyukova, Vera Kalashnikova, Svetlana Chimrova, Rozalia Nasretdinova) - 1:48.45

2. Novosibirsk Oblast (Ksenia Lepikhina, Valentina Artemyeva, Maria Petrova, Arina Surkova) - 1:50.41

3. St. Petersburg (Ekaterina Andreeva, Daria Chikunova, Alina Trineeva, Svetlana Knyaginina) - 1:51.30

Women's 100m freestyle

1. Veronika Popova, St. Petersburg - 53.04

2. Elena Sokolova, Moscow - 53.55

3. Margarita Nesterova, Belgorod Oblast - 53.95

Veronika Popova won her second individual gold medal in Kazan and achieved the qualifiying standard for the FINA World Championships in Doha (QAT). Other swimmers were not that successful.

Women's 200m backstroke

1. Daria Ustinova, Sverdlovsk Oblast- 2:05.29 (national junior record)

2. Anastasia Osipenko, Krasnoyarsk Krai - 2:06.34

3. Polina Lapshina, Sverdlovsk Oblast - 2:06.47

16-year-old Daria Ustinova not only set the national junior record, but also made the qualifying time for the World Championships. Just like Veronika Popova, she earned her second gold in Kazan.

Men's 200m breaststroke

1. Oleg Kostin, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast - 2:03.04

2. Kirill Prigoda, St. Petersburg - 2:04.76

3. Mikhail Dorin, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast - 2:04.82

All three medallists in the men's 200m breaststroke event reached the World Championships qualifying standard, but only the champion and the runner-up earned spots on the national team. It was Oleg Kostin's second victory in Kazan.

Women's 50m butterfly

1. Rozalia Nasretdinova, Moscow - 25.98

2. Anastasia Lyazeva, St. Petersburg - 26.01

3. Daria Tsvetkova, Altai Krai - 26.08

All three female swimmers did not manage to meet the qualifying time. Nasretdinova beat national record holder Anastasia Lyazeva who touched the pad 0.3 seconds behind. 

Men's 400m freestyle

1. Mikhail Polishchuk, Moscow - 3:42.45

2. Alexander Krasnov, Republic of Tatarstan - 3:42.66

3. Yevgeny Kulikov, Moscow - 3:43.79

Mikhail Polishchuk finished two-tenths of a second clear of Alexander Krasnov. Both of them missed out on the World Championships qualifying time.

Women's 100m individual medley

1. Vitalina Simonova, Novosibirsk Oblast - Orenburg Oblast - 1:00.05

2. Ekaterina Andreeva, Vladimir Oblast - 1:00.38

3. Irina Shvaeva, St. Petersburg - 1:00.76

Men's 50m freestyle

1. Oleg Tikhobaev, St. Petersburg - 21.05

2. Evgeny Sedov, Volgograd Oblast - 21.27 (national junior record)

2. Sergey Fesikov, Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug - Penza - 21.27

18-year-old Evgeny Sedov and Sergey Fesikov placed second and third, finishing with the exact same time. Oleg Tikhobaev grabbed gold and achieved the qualifying standard. It's his third victory in Kazan.

Women's 400m freestyle

1. Veronika Popova, St. Petersburg - 4:03.42

2. Elena Sokolova, Moscow - 4:05.35

3. Anastasia Ivanenko, Komi Republic - 4:06.03

4. Yana Martynova, Republic of Tatarstan - 4:06.47

An hour after her first victory, Veronika Popova repeated her success in the 400m freestyle event and qualified for the World Championships.

Men's 200m individual medley

1. Semyon Makovich, Samara Oblast - 1:54.93

2. Daniil Pasynkov, Moscow - 1:56.45

3. Dmitry Gorbunov, Moscow - 1:56.95

Semyon Makovich scored another victory at the national championships, and yet again met the World Championships qualifying standard.

Women's 4x100m freestyle

1. Moscow (Rozalia Nasretdinova, Maria Reznikova, Kristina Pukhova, Elena Sokolova) - 3:37.64

2. St. Petersburg (Daria Ustinova, Daria Kartashova, Ksenia Kozyukova, Veronika Popova) - 3:39.25

3. Sverdlovsk Oblast (Polina Lapshina, Daria Ustinova, Alina Kashinskaya, Valeria Salamatina) - 3:40.19

It's the third gold medal (out of a total of 4) that Rozalia Nasretdinova wins in Kazan.

Six medal events will be contested on Tuesday.
