November 20, 2014 marks the official kickoff of the new stage of the volunteer programme for the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan. With the volunteer training programme entering the recruitment stage, since that day all those who applied to be volunteers at next year's international aquatics events may be contacted by the Organising Committee for interviews.

Volunteer candidates of Tatarstan and 20 partner regions, including Moscow, St. Petersburg, Sverdlovsk Oblast, Republic of Moldovia, Udmurt Republic, Republic of Mari El, Republic of Chuvashia. Orenburg Oblast, Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Saratov Oblast, Samara Oblast, Arkhangelsk Oblast, Novosibirsk Oblast, Kirov Oblast, Volgograd Oblast, Rostov Oblast, Astrakhan Oblast, Primorsky Krai, Krasnoyarsk Krai, Krasnodar Krai, embark on the new stage of the volunteer programme, namely face-to-face interviews for the 2015 FINA World Championships.

On November 20, volunteer recruitment centres of all partner regions opened their doors to welcome all those wishing to make their contribution to a successful staging of the 16th FINA World Championships. In the months ahead, recruiters will be consulting candidates on volunteer opportunities that will be available during next year's international aquatics event. Interviews will run until April 2015, and after that the lists of selected volunteers will be announced. 2,500 volunteers will be needed to ensure a smooth running of the Championships. 2,000 of them will be from Kazan and Tatarstan while the remaining part will come from partner regions (each partner region will compose a 25-strong delegation) and countries abroad (a total of 50 international volunteers will be recruited).

The interview process for Kazan 2015 volunteer positions features some novelties which lacked in the build-up to the 2013 Summer Universiade. Apart from traditional questions about personal motivation, volunteer experience or other social activities, skills and talents, the interviews now include an English language test. Candidates will be given a variety of texts with different difficulty levels on the subject of volunteering and aquatic sports and need to answer questions from a recruiter. A candidate will need at least an intermediate level of English in order to successfully pass an interview. Introduction of this additional requirement is motivated by a high international status of the Championships and a great number of foreign guests that will come to Kazan next summer. Interviews will last no more than 15-20 minutes.

As we reported earlier, the Kazan 2015 Organising Committee has been implementing the volunteer programme since March 2014. The first stage included the awareness-raising programme within which the Learn Everything About FINA project has been carried out. From April to October 2014, over 60,000 people from regions of the Russian Federation and countries abroad took part in the project that raises people's awareness of the upcoming aquatics event and its volunteer programme. The application process was launched on the sidelines of the Volunteers' Academy All-Russian Training Camp on September 20, 2014. The online application form was opened on that day on the official Kazan 2015 website. Recruitment is another stage of the volunteer programme and it will result in the build-up of the volunteer team by April 2015. Volunteers who will successfully pass the selection process will undergo a series of training sessions. During the general and specific training programmes, the shortlisted volunteers will learn some general information on the upcoming competitions and their programme, ins and outs of the functional areas they will be assigned to and get to know the venue where they will perform their volunteer duties. The final stage of the programme will comprise management of volunteers during the Championships in order to ensure their outstanding performance and excellent work.
