A press conference with winners of the solo technical routine was held at the Kazan Arena Stadium, during which all medallists took questions from reporters. The newly crowned world champion Svetlana Romashina came to the press conference with a huge paper-made chamomile with the words ‘Pretty Woman’ written on it. Her mother, the most devoted fan of hers, made it for her with her own hands.

“Probably, for now it is the most precious medal I have ever got, because it was gained in front of my supporters and my parents. Naturally, I’m exhausted. I woke up at 6 in the morning, and I will wake up early tomorrow too. What is my motivation? It’s the main question that emerges every year. Especially after a long vacation. But deep inside I understand that I’m a professional athlete and I must do my work.  You can do nothing about it. Sport is a drug, adrenaline that every athlete needs. And for now my main goal is to perform well at the domestic World Championships. I hope that it will be successfully held.  And then I will again have my vacation. Am I content with my performance? With the new scoring system, leaders do not get maximum scores any more. So now we are rejoice when we get 9.8 or even 9.7,” Svetlana Romashina said.

“I am really glad to be able to perform to the best of my abilities and to show a better result than in the preliminaries. Will I be able to beat Russia? I always want it. Yes, Team Russia has strongest synchro players who constantly prove that they are the best. But my aim is to improve day by day, so maybe I will be able to win: At the previous Championships in Barcelona I took bronze, this time I earned silver,” second-place finisher Ona Carbonell (ESP) said.

“The third place for me is an excellent result and it’s also important that thanks to this medal Team China is on the top of the medal table. Before coming to these World Championships, I didn’t have any medal plan at all. I just wanted to outdo myself, to show everything I’m capable of. And Of course, I wouldn’t mind to perform better than Carbonell. Do I want to beat Russia? We keep working on it every day but we need some time to reach this level.  Synchronised swimming is only in development stage. Is it odd to perform at the stadium? The pool is built in the football stadium so it is really spacious. Other pools never give this feeling,” bronze medallist Sun Wenyan (CHN) said.

As we reported earlier, Svetlana Romashina presented a colourful combination of elements performed to the song from the movie Pretty Woman. The judges were generous with points. Eventually, her 95.2680 remained unbeaten by other participants. Just like sports experts predicted, her closest rivals in the medal race were Ona Carbonell of Spain and Wenyan Sun of China, who took second and third places respectively.
