The winner and runners-up in the men’s 100m breaststroke final of the 16th FINA World Championships took questions from journalists.

“I’m happy that I could win this race. The competition for gold was fierce. It was a demanding heat. I think that it will be even more interesting further on. Pressure? It was a new experience for me. I hadn’t performed in front of so many crowds before. Though it made an impact on my first split, I was a bit slow until the 50m turn, but eventually I could collect myself and be on top of my game, thanks to the Kazan spectators who encouraged me to win,” world champion Adam Peaty said.

Silver medallist from South Africa, Cameron Van der Burgh, rated the results in terms of his lifelong experience of competing internationally.

“I’m happy, I liked the way I swam the heat. I stroke my personal best of the season. I want to express regret to the athlete who failed to touch the pad. I’m so sorry he was disqualified. What do I think of Russian Prigoda? He is talented; he was swimming under pressure which affected the result. Nowadays more and more promising athletes appear, and Prigoda is one of them, for sure,” Van der Burgh noted.

Bronze medallist Ross Murdoch commented on the outcome of the race.

“I’m satisfied with a world bronze this year. I’m glad that my efforts were rewarded with the season best time and a trophy in the end of the season,” Ross Murdoch said.
