Cameron van der Burgh updated today his own record that he had set at the 2009 FINA World Championships in Rome (26.67). Today, in the preliminaries, he clocked a time of 26.62.

South African swimmer Cameron van der Burgh is confident that the 50m butterfly world record he achieved today at the FINA World Championships in Kazan will be taken down in the upcoming semifinal of final.

“I am very happy with the time, and it is great just to have a bit of fun swimming in the morning. All the guys showed the same time. I'm sure that tonight and tomorrow night this time will be beaten again. I think I can do it,” Van Der Burgh said to reports.

“My physical condition is not perfect but much better than last year. I was able to train more efficiently in recent months. And my shoulder is feeling good. So I am able to train and get prepared for the Olympics properly now. I expected the success, I knew that we could beat that time in the 50m,” the sprinter added.
