The second final heat has come to an end a few moments ago at the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan. Top eight swimmers of the world fought for spots on the podium in the women’s 200m freestyle event.

Katie Ledecky of the United States, the heroine of the current World Championships, was again unbeatable today finishing the race with 1:55.16. Italy’s Federica Pellegrini came second stopping the watch at 1:55.32. Another American swimmer Missy Franklin completed the podium in the third place with a time of 1:55.49.

However, the bronze medallist recently admitted to reporters that she swims not to win trophies but to improve her results.

“My aim is not to break a record but to swim much faster than the other day. And I still should work on it,” said Melissa Franklin.

As for her compatriot, Katie Ledecky, she had already succeeded to win two gold medals in Kazan. The day before the American swimmer had climbed the top podium spot after winning the 1,500m freestyle final. That very evening inexhaustible Katie Ledecky also had swum the women’s 200m freestyle semifinal. If yesterday she had finished in sixth place, today she outsprinted all her opponents to claim her third world crown at the World Championships in Kazan.

“After the heat my legs felt like jelly and my arms were aching. Although all these feelings pale into insignificance when you are fully overwhelmed with joy after winning the race,” said Katie Ledecky the day before.
