The third final heat has concluded a short time ago at the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan. The world's top eight swimmers competed for medals in the men’s 50m breaststroke event.

Adam Peaty of Great Britain touched home in 26.51 to win the world crown. South African Cameron van der Burgh ended up as the runner-up with a time of 26.66. American swimmer Kevin Cordes settled for bronze with 26.86.

Adam Peaty had already marked the swimming events with his presence on top of the podium when he had celebrated his 100m breaststroke gold. During a press conference, he admitted that he earned the world title thanks to the fantastic support of Kazan fans.

“It was new experience for me. I hadn’t performed in front of so many crowds before. Though it made an impact on my first split, I was a bit slow until the 50m turn, but eventually I could collect myself and be on top of my game, thanks to the Kazan spectators who encouraged me to win,” said world champion Adam Peaty.
