The fifth final heat has concluded as we speak at the 16th FINA World Championships in Kazan. The top worldwide swimmers fought for gold in the women’s 800m freestyle event.

U.S. swimming sensation Katie Ledecky can be deservedly named the major breakthrough of the FINA World Championships in Kazan. Within one week she managed to grab three gold medals in the women’s 200m, 400m and 1,500m freestyle events. Today’s race was no exception. In the 800m freestyle event, she again left no chance to her opponents. Being in a class of her own, Katie Ledecky not only topped the podium but also updated her own record clocking 8:07.39.

The race also saw a fierce fight unfold for the second place. Eventually it was New Zealand’s Lauren Boyle who came second with a time of 8:17.65. Jaz Carlin of Great Britain rounded out the podium in third place after stopping the watch at 8:18.15.

Despite the fact that the US swimmer is an absolute favourite in all the heats she takes part in, Ledecky is a very modest girl and doesn’t talk much about her victories. But words are needless here; her actions speak louder than words.

“I’m glad that I could win on Day 1 of the swimming competitions at the FINA Words 2015. I’m even more glad that I succeeded to defend my title in this event. It’s an honour for me to compete with the best athletes. Honestly, I still feel nervous ahead of every heat,” Katie Ledecky said during one of her earlier interviews.
