Kazan Arena Stadium

In 2015, during the 16th FINA World Championships, the stadium hosted swimming and synchronised swimming events. Two temporary 50-metre-long pools were set up on the football pitch: one for competitions and one for warm-ups. Both temporary pools were installed in collaboration with Myrtha Pools, the Official FINA Pool Partner, and fully complied with the FINA requirements. The temporary stands were able to seat 11,000 spectators.

Athletes' preparation area, lounge area and access to the warm-up pool were located in the North Stand of the stadium. The West Stand had functional zones (FINA offices, sport competition management), press centre, conference hall and VIP skyboxes.

The construction of the Kazan Arena Stadium was launched on May 5, 2010, when Vladimir Putin, who was Prime Minister of the Russian Federation back then, laid the foundation stone.

The football stadium occupies a 32-hectare site situated in the eastern part of the Novo-Savinosvky City District. The shape of the football stadium reminds of a water lily and fits well into the city’s panorama. It’s a round-shaped multi-storey building (five to eight floors) with four levels of open stands with the total capacity of 45,000 people and 4 exit areas. The West Stand features a huge HD media façade with a total area of 3,700 sq.m.

The stadium owes its multifunctionality to up-to-date technological solutions enabling the football field to transform into a venue for various cultural, entertainment and sporting events.

The Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the 27th Summer Universiade were held at the stadium. Plus, at Games time the venue housed the Main Press Centre (MPC) and International Broadcasting Centre (IBC).
